Our strategy and priorities for the coming years

Open Press Tilburg University is committed to advancing diamond open access publishing by making scholarly and educational publications freely accessible to everyone, without fees for authors or readers. We publish both journals and books, including monographs, edited collections, lectures, textbooks and handbooks. As part of the Netherlands University Presses (NUPs), we are entering a new phase of development that will shape our priorities over the coming years.

Strengthening open access publishing and infrastructure

Open Press Tilburg University is participating in three projects funded by Open Science NL, running until 2029. These projects aim to strengthen collaboration across the Netherlands University Presses network, develop a shared catalogue, and contribute to the development of a shared national publishing infrastructure. Together, these initiatives will help build a more sustainable, connected, and accessible landscape for university press and institutional publishing providers in the Netherlands.

In addition, Tilburg University Library has secured funding through NPULs to strengthen the culture of open education at Tilburg University. This initiative complements our commitment to open knowledge by supporting the development and use of open educational resources.

What this means for our publishing program

In the short term, Open Press Tilburg University will focus on contributing to these funded projects and supporting the development of open educational resources. As a result, our editorial priorities will temporarily place greater emphasis on educational materials, including publications that support teaching and learning.

This shift in focus does not mean that other types of scholarly publications are excluded from our program. Publications arising from previously accepted submissions, and existing publication series will continue to be considered for publication and scheduled in line with our editorial planning and available capacity. The same applies to our ongoing journals.

During this period, we will also review our editorial guidelines and policies to ensure that they continue to support our mission, reflect developments in open access publishing, and align with our evolving strategy.

Please note that, during this period, proposals for open educational resources like (interactive) textbooks will receive particular consideration as we work towards our strategic priorities.
